2013 Spring CLGO Governing Board Meeting was Held Smoothly

On May 27, the Governing Board Meeting of CLGO (China Leaders for Global Operations) opened in Room 317, Middle Building at Xuhui campus, SJTU. Members present at this meeting included: Vice Dean Dong Ming of Antai College of Economics and Management, Vice Dean Yang Xiaokang of School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering, Professor Ming Xinguo of School of Mechanical Engineering; Professor Don Rosenfield, Director of MIT LGO, Professor David Simchi-Levi, Dr. Joshua Jacobs and LGO Senior Consultant Jeff Shao. Representatives of cooperative enterprises included: HR Manager Qian Guo and Operation Manager Zod Mehr of Apple, Logistics Manager Chris Honstain of Caterpillar, Test Manager Wenhao Xiao of Cisco, Supplier Quality Director Charla Serbent of Dell, HR Vice Director Kitty Yao of Esquel Group, Purchasing Vice President Kane Xu of Honeywell, Operation Director Jason Chen of Nike, HR Manager Annie Jiang of Novartis, etc. Besides, Gary Baker, General Manager of Boeing Tianjin, was invited as the special guest of this meeting. 

First, Governing Board members participated in the practical project exhibition held by CLGO students of 2012 grade. Students shared some of their recent practical projects in the form of poster boards which included five Lion Team projects (cooperative work between CLGO students and MIT students to research and solve specific operation problems in Boeing, Nike, Schneider, Cisco and Delphi), five embedded practical projects of product design and develop class, and practical projects of supply chain global competition. They answered carefully every question concerning the details of the projects and CLGO Governing Board members highly praised their rich practical activities.

Then, CLGO project team reported the latest progress, which included Fifth Anniversary Celebration Ceremony, teacher training, internship of 2011 grade students, practical projects of 2012 grade students and enrollment of 2013 grade. The internship of 2011 grade went smoothly, most of them in CLGO cooperative companies in Shanghai, and their midterm feedback report would soon begin. 2012 grade this year participated in many practical projects, which included 5 Lion Team projects and 21 Dragon Team projects. The enrollment of 2013 was good as most students were from key 985, 211 universities with manufacturing and operation background.

Next, CLGO Enterprise Director Judson Graham introduced the process of the relationship with the cooperative enterprises, including regular Continuous Improvement meetings with cooperative enterprises, sending CLGO Newsletter to share information, enhancing communication channels, etc. Jud hoped to share more information to CLGO cooperative enterprises and respond actively to their concerns. He also hoped that through Lion Team and Dragon Team projects, more valuable services were provided to CLGO cooperative enterprises. And then, students of Boeing Lion Team shared the information of their projects like their biggest challenge, the solution to it and so on. Professor Don Rosenfield of MIT LGO introduced the latest progress of LGO, including the enrollment and employment situation. 

SJTU, MIT and representatives of CLGO cooperative enterprises discussed heatedly about how to support the development of CLGO project, how to innovate, and how to continuously add value to cooperative enterprises at this meeting and they pointed out the direction for the future of CLGO project.
