2018 class CLGO students visited Honeywell Company

On November 23, the 2018 class CLGO students from Antai College of Economics and Management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University started the Plant Tour for the first time, has visited the internal operation and management process of Honeywell, a world-class enterprise. Honeywell, as a world famous diversified high-tech manufacturing enterprise, has advanced technology and experience in operation management process control and other aspects. Honeywell is one of the world's top 500 multinational companies. Currently, its business is divided into four major parts. Metrologic and aero-engine in Suzhou are the important part of its business. During the Plant Tour, we had the opportunity to visit Metrologic Instruments Inc. and Aero Engine Co., Ltd of Honeywell located in Suzhou.

At 9:00 am that day, CLGO students arrived at Metrologic Instruments Inc. Mr. Wang Xiaobin, the senior operations manager of Honeywell Suzhou division plant warmly received CLGO students. After a short exchange, manager Wang introduced the current situation of Honeywell and the industry-leading HOS (Honeywell Operating System) System in the meeting room. Due to the s continuous efforts and innovation in lean production for many years, Metrologic has won numerous honors, including: the first batch of HOS world-class plant standards with the highest rating of Honeywell internal operating system (3 plants in total), and the title of “green plant” in Suzhou.

Manager Wang led the students to visit the product experience hall. After experiencing all kinds of main products, we couldn't wait to have a look at the production line. On the production line, the students saw the small car of intelligent voice material distribution system used in the lean production process and the mobile station unit that can quickly form a new production line. The biggest bright spot is the intelligent security lamp system set for monitoring every step of the production process. When there is a problem, the user can quickly report the problem by scanning the code or touching the screen. When the five-color light is on, the system will automatically call the preset first-level responsible person, and then the corresponding responsible person will arrive at the site in time, scan the code to confirm, and solve the problem in time. This system significantly improves the efficiency of problem solving.

After visiting the production line, Mr. Tu Yun, the general manager of Honeywell greater China region, introduced the corporate culture to us enthusiastically and conducted a question-and-answer session. The students had a heated discussion with general manager Tu and gained a lot.

In the afternoon, students visited Honeywell Aero-Engine Co., Ltd. Every Boeing aircraft, there are 30% of the products produced by Honeywell Corporation, and Honeywell Corporation is also one of the important suppliers of Commercial aircraft corporation of China Ltd. Honeywell Aero Engine (Suzhou) Co., Ltd was established in April 1998. The main products are engine parts, all the products are sold back to the United States which are used for the various engines and auxiliary engine products of the world market. The products are provided for the Boeing, airbus and a large number of aircraft manufacturers around the world.

Liu Yuetao, the quality and lean production manager of Aero Engine Co., Ltd. warmly received the 2018 class CLGO visiting students, and introduced the application of HOS system in the field of aero engine parts production to the students. Since 2007, the company has introduced lean concept into the system. In the past 11 years, the company was improved through tool, made the continue achievements with the culture, held the basic level meeting as a platform, operated the leadership standardized work as the driving, and took the personnel training and team building as the basis, implemented the lean production. Under the unremitting efforts, the company has got the great improvement in the Delivery quality inventory personnel efficiency and so on. The company completed the copper medal plant certification of Honeywell excellent operation in 2009. The company completed the silver medal plant certification of Honeywell excellent operation in 2012, and completed the excellent silver medal plant certification of Honeywell excellent operation in 2015. Then, the production manager Wang Chen and engineering manager Pang Haofeng led the students to visit the production plant. The CLGO students experienced the actual application and operation process of the HOS system at the site, and have visited the high precision aircraft engine parts production line, the standardized operation specific flow, the high-tech equipment on site and the clean site made the students eye-opening. Then manager Liu Yuetao shared the optimization case with CLGO students in the meeting room. The students combined the knowledge learned in class with the actual situation, applied the theory in practice, and discussed and shared with manager Liu. Everyone benefited from it a lot.

At five o 'clock in the afternoon, the students started the return journey. So far, the “plant tour” activities of CLGO2018 class students ended in a satisfactory way. Through the Honeywell tour, students gained a deeper understanding of lean production and innovative management, as well as a more comprehensive understanding of the knowledge of the courses they learned. In the future, CLGO students will keep in touch with enterprises and focus on the optimization of enterprise operation for a long time.
