Do you think you are the CEO? Mr. John Darwin Van Fleet used a very serious question to raises the first topic ——- how to use the thinking of strategic development to make the career planning. Joh then explained: although now we are not a company CEO, but every people is his own CEO. The career planning with strategy is to learn how to build effective communication, to efficiently display and sell yourself in a limited time. For students with an engineering background, it is not easy to learn how to establish effective communication, however, the most effective way to improve your professional career is to improve communication skills. John gave three effective suggestions according to background and characteristics: of the CLGO' students: ① Use SWOT analysis to find your goals; ② Establish reasonable target nodes; ③ Constantly revise your goals with the help of the good teachers and helpful friends.
How do you stand out yourself in a stereotyped resume template? John told us the importance of the effective communication in our resume through a vivid Netflix mock interview video. In this video, the job seekers are not introduced and blindly praise self, but use the Michael Porter's Five Forces Model to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of Netflix Company in the market, and propose the highlight suggestions for improvement, and, finally get the favor by the interviewer and get the success in job application. Aiming at the design of the resume, John thought that in the process of job application, there is no best resume template, but only there is the most suitable template, to apply for the position, you should highlight your own advantages and characteristics according to the applied position, The attentive resume design will convey to the interviewer the positive attitude that you attach great importance to this opportunity. The effective resume communication is to learn to summarize your ability and background with strong phrases, to find your strongest selling point, highlight your advantages through the refined language, and to leave the deep impression to the interviewer.
In the end, John answered the questions of the students patiently. He was very humorous to use the celebrated dictum of “it is better to teach the fishing skill rather than giving fish”. Through specific examples to study the method to solve the problem believe through this FORUM, the students of career planning and resume communication will have a more profound understanding, at the same time, the students will bring strategic development vision to continuously improve yourself, find a new direction of professional development.
