The Global MBA Ranking 2022 has been released by QS recently. QS ranked 286 programs this year from 45 countries, and many more were analyzed. The ranking data were collected in 2021, based on three surveys: QS Global Employer Survey, QS Global Academic Survey and the survey completed by business schools themselves. Data received was based on the 2020 graduating class (for employment info) and the incoming 2020 class for class composition.

In this ranking, the MBA program of Antai College of Economics and Management (ACEM), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) ranks 60th, retaining its position in the global top 100 list and continuously leading local business schools in mainland China.

A total of 13 criteria form the basis of five key indicators that programs were ranked on: "employability", "entrepreneurship and alumni outcomes", "return on investment", "thought leadership" and "class and faculty diversity".

① Employability (40%): the backbone of the rankings is QS Global Employer Survey. The survey, which has now been running for over 20 years, asks employers to select the schools that they prefer to hire from. Employers across all sectors and industries take part in the survey, including Facebook, Google, Uber, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, etc. The total score for this indicator also considers the employment rate for students three months after graduation, based on MBACSEA standards.

② Entrepreneurship and Alumni Outcomes (15%): the Alumni Outcomes Index looks at the schools associated with over 50,000 CEOs, executives and board members at the leading companies in the world, including Apple, Amazon, UBS, IBM, Microsoft and JPMorgan Chase, etc. QS takes into account more than 150 global and regional lists. Compared with the last ranking, QS has added 14% of alumni. Also the number of students starting businesses in each program is added.

③ Return on Investment (20%): QS looks at a 10-year return on investment, mapping average post-MBA salaries against average salaries before enrolment, taking into account forgone salary as well as tuition and cost of living. Salary increases are factored into both pre and post-MBA salary, with the latter increasing at a higher rate; QS believes that 10 years gives a representative and meaningful return on investment insight compared with some rankings that use a five-year approach.

④ Thought Leadership (15%): the indicator is based on the institutions named by 260,920 scholars from 60 countries around the world, which they believe are the strongest in their subject area. QS also includes research impact: based on the QS World University Rankings by Subject, we measure citations per paper, rather than citations per faculty; another factor looks at by the indicator is the percentage of faculty with PhD.

⑤ Class & Faculty Diversity (10%): to give a clear representation of diversity within a program, QS looks at the percentage of female students and faculty members (institutions with equal gender ratios receive the highest possible scores). QS also looks at the percentage of international faculty overall at the business school and the international mix of students on the MBA program

Earlier, QS also released a Global MBA breakdown ranking to provide insight into the world’s top business schools for seven different specialist areas, giving prospective MBA students a valuable source of information. The MBA program of ACEM SJTU ranks 31st in the MBA Rankings by Specialization - Entrepreneurship 2021 and first in China; it ranks 50th in MBA Rankings by Specialization - Finance 2021 and first in the mainland.

In addition, in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, three subjects of ACEM SJTU rank among the top 50 in the world for four consecutive years. The QS World University Rankings by Subject are compiled annually to help prospective students identify the leading schools and universities in a particular subject. The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021 cover a total of 51 disciplines, grouped into five broad subject areas. There are 4 economics and management-related subjects in the World University Rankings by Subject, in which ACEM all rank among the top 60 with steady improvement.
